Former All-Star and World Series champion Ken Griffey Sr. knows all too well the devastating toll prostate cancer can take on a family. He lost four uncles to the cancer, so his mother instilled in him the importance of regular screenings. He was always vocal about his prostate health, until 2006 when his own diagnosis showed him how difficult speaking up about the issue can be.
Through his experience with prostate cancer and with the help of his family—including baseball great Ken Griffey Jr.—Ken Sr. has become much more comfortable speaking up about the disease and keeping tabs on potential symptoms like fatigue and lifestyle changes that could be important to flag to his doctor. The Griffeys continue to spread the word about Bayer's Men Who Speak Up movement to encourage men with advanced prostate cancer to know the symptoms of advancing disease and speak up about the warning signs.
